(Democrat & Chronicle) – The Veterans of Foreign Wars reports it lost 549,000 members the past 14 years, more than the number of U.S. troops who died in combat in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

“World War II vets are dying off at the rate of 1,500 a day … They are passing faster than we can replace them,” Jim Durkin of Canandaigua, state commander for the VFW in New York, said Friday.
