Stars and Stripes – The number of suicides among younger veterans increased “substantially” from 2015 to 2016, according to a new report to be released Wednesday by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The new VA National Suicide Data Report, which shows that suicide among veterans continues to be higher than the rest of the population, reveals younger veterans are particularly at risk. For every 100,000 veterans age 18 to 34, 45 committed suicide in 2016 – up from 40.4 for every 100,000 in 2015.
