Department of Veterans Affairs – During a December 11, 2013, Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs hearing on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) backlog of disability claims, several Committee members expressed concern about the growing inventory of appealed claims and the time it takes VA to resolve appeals. Chairman Sanders requested that VA prepare and submit a plan for improving the claims appeal process within 45 days of the hearing. This document responds to the Chairman’s request with a preliminary plan.
